Aim of Unit 8 Legislation and Ethics in the Travel and Tourism Sector
Unit 8 Legislation and Ethics in the Travel and Tourism Sector aims at making the learners understand the legislations and ethics that are to be considered within the tourism industry. They will acquire an idea of the legal and moral issues related to tourism sector. This will also provide them with an understanding of legal framework that is essential for an effective operation within the tourism sector. This will further intend the learner to apply legal frameworks using real case scenarios and the influence of the precedents. This will also foster a range of opportunity to investigate various business ethics within the tourism industry and will also be able to obtain an idea regarding the ethical dilemmas that might occur. Thus, this unit will provide a basis for producing a productive policy of corporate social responsibility for the industry.

LO1 Understand the legal and regulatory framework in the travel and tourism sector
In this section, the learners will be able to acquire knowledge of the laws and regulations that can be applied within the operations of tourism sector. The frameworks that can be considered by tourism industry are Strategic Rail Authority (SRA), Health and Safety Commission (HSC), Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and many more. This will also involve the legislations involved in the processes of the activities and structures of tourism sector. The tourism industry is also required to comply with the transport laws such as Carriage of Passenger by Road Act 1974.
LO2 Understand legislation and regulations relating to health, safety and security in the travel and tourism sector
This section will make the organization understand the legal processes which the employer has to handle. For example, under the Health and Safety at Work Act, 1974 the organization must need to take care of the health, safety and security of its employees and people in their premises. The organization will also have to know the different laws related to fair trade, air travel and customs so that these factors can not harm their tour services. They should also have to keep the local laws of the land in mind where they are conducting their services, so that their clients can enjoy the service.
LO3 Understand consumer protection legislation in relation to the travel and tourism sector
This unit will give the organization idea about different contracts and legal permission they need to know for conducting their services like contracts for supply food, contracts related to package holiday and more. The organization also needs to know about the consumer protection laws so that their clients can enjoy the service also knowing all this will take the company away from any legal problem.
LO4 Understand the role of business ethics in the travel and tourism sector
This unit will enlighten the learner with the values and ethics in the tourism business. This will also help one to introspect between what is legally correct and what is ethically correct. By having knowledge about this the organization can understand what their responsibilities are towards the society and towards their customers, which is too important for the sustainable growth of the organization.
