Assessment Description and Instructions
A wireless technology signifies an increasing portion of the worldwide communications infrastructure, it is important to understand the roles of wireless and wire-line technologies. Sometimes wireless and wireline technologies compete, but in most instances, they are complementary. Many challenges need to be overcome in order to deploy broadband access network such as policy, legacy, existing infrastructures, economic and social impact, educational issues, awareness and knowledge, remote and rural areas, spectrum constraints, standards of living, digital democracy, digital and financial inclusions. In this assessment students are subjected into group of 3 and will investigate these challenges in response to the following criteria.
1. What are the major factors that influence the effective deployment of wireline and wireless broadband access technologies and applications. This includes:
- Physical, sociological and policy factors.
- How the deployment of broadband access technologies impact on underserved populations.
- How could you compare different challenges in deploying wireline broadband access such as ISDN, DSL, DOCSIS, FTTX with the Wireless Broad band Access (WBA).
- What would be the technical measures to deploy an effective wireless access network.
Justify each answer with real life examples.
2. Considering WBA, by how many different ways you can adopt to implement IMT system using terrestrial and satellite links what would be the limitations of these methods ? Justify your answer.
The tutor will form the groups of 3 students.
