By having technology development, business intelligence system has evolved over the years. Various concepts such as data mining, data quality, data integration and other management application would be mentioned in the study. This unit would introduce different techniques, tools and technologies to acquire and process data as per the company’s requirement. Impact of business intelligence system upon organisation decision-making would be analysed. Apart from that, it would also discuss about the significance of business intelligence as well as use of different techniques and tools in ground operations.
By the end of this unit students will be able to:
- Discuss business processes and the mechanisms used to support business decision-making.
- Compare the tools and technologies associated with business intelligence functionality.
- Demonstrate the use of business intelligence tools and technologies.
- Discuss the impact of business intelligence tools and technologies for effective decision-making purposes and the legal/regulatory context in which they are used.
LO1 Discuss business processes and the mechanisms used to support business decision-making
In this part, different models regarding business processes, mechanisms and processes would be evaluated. Students would understand several terms or concepts such as data capture and input, data conversion, security considerations, semi and unstructured data. Apart from these, different systems of technologies would be compared with the business intelligence system. Different application software and database system would be investigated. Several business processes like sales, marketing and purchasing operation, supporting problem-solving and decision making system, technical support functions, forecasting as well as predictive reasoning would be analysed.
LO2 Compare the tools and technologies associated with business intelligence functionality
In this section, ideal comparisons between tools or technologies would be generated briefly. Intelligence functionality as well as different business technologies would be evaluated further. Within the business decision support, different operational and tactical strategies would be developed. Decisions would include setting of goals, future forecasting, and defining priorities. In the functionality, data analysis, various decision making and problem solving processes, innovative business systems such as management information, expert systems, transaction processing would be investigated.
LO3 Demonstrate the use of business intelligence tools and technologies
Multiple uses of business intelligence technologies would be mentioned in this part. Through the discussion, students might understand how to produce predictive as well as descriptive analysis of these tools along with data mining systems, cluster pattern and relationship between essential business data. It would also give them an idea about different system requirements, tool designing, program designing, website updates and more. User interaction and engagement within business process would also be considered.
LO4 Discuss the impact of business intelligence tools and technologies for effective decision-making purposes and the legal/regulatory context in which they are used
In this section, different issues regarding social, ethical, legal and professional would recognised as far as business technology is concerned.
