In the present section, the basic dissimilarities between a leader and manager is demonstrated. The role of a leader is to lead the entire team by listening to their personal comments. On the other hand, the role of a manager is to manage all the operations and communicate with the team members. Even the working patterns of both managers and leaders are different from each other.
LO1 Differentiate between the role of a leader and the function of a manager
Leaders make a plan after communicating with their followers whereas managers first set goals and check whether it matches the organisational goal or not.
After setting goals and make the mission both leaders and managers try to organise all the operations for better understanding and after that control and direct as per the pre-designed module. There are three basic components of the action-centered leadership. There are various models and theories of leadership such as “Great Man Theory”, “Trait Theory”, “Behavioural Theories”, “Contingency Theories”, “Transactional Theories” and “Transformational Theories”. Hard leadership refers to managing all the operations within the workplace.
LO2 Apply the role of a leader and the function of a manager in given contexts
Leadership is of two types such as “Autocratic” and “Democratic”. In autocratic all the decisions are made by the leaders without even communicating with the workers or followers. On the other hand, democratic leaders communicate with the workers and then after taking the necessary steps. Apart from that, with the application of MBO the leaders also try to improve the overall business performance with the application of different managerial strategies.
LO3 Demonstrate an appreciation of the role leaders and managers play in the operations function of an organisation
The roles of a leader also include “Control and Distribution Systems”, “Transformation of raw material into finished goods/services”, “ Design all the processes”, “stock management” and “Scheduling”. Total Quality Management, application of Six Sigma, management of lean production and implementation of “queuing theory” are also come under the roles of leaders.
LO4 Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between leadership and management in a contemporary business environment
CSR in the context of management can be described as the process through which managers can check the overall improvement of processes and operations. On the other hand, leadership in CSR refers to the overall relationship enhancement.
On the other hand, it also incorporates “good relationships with stakeholders” and “meeting stakeholder expectations in the context of encouraging”, “developing and sustaining entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship”.
