Aim of Unit: Business Information Technology Systems

Unit 33 Business Information Technology Systems aims to enhance the knowledge of students about contemporary business information technology (IT) systems and the manner in which it facilitates the development and continuous review of IT strategy developed by an organisation for maintaining competitive advantage. Students would further explore the aspects of business that benefit from the utilisation of IT systems. A broader understanding of the manner in which IT systems act as a driver that facilitates improvement of a business would be explored here. LO1 Demonstrate understanding of the role of different IT systems in support of organisational objectives

The role played by IT systems in the management of knowledge, data and customer service would be discussed here. The impact and contribution of the same towards solving problems faced by a business would also be discussed. The impact, structure and functions of organisations that would benefit from the use of IT systems would also be discussed.

LO2 Analyse flexible and reliable IT systems that respond to organisational requirements

Utilisation of different types of IT systems and the role played by them in achieving the business objectives for improving operational efficiency would be explained here. The types of information and data followed by the layers, corporate database management systems, their characteristics within a company would further be explained.

This would be followed by the types along with the flow of information within a company and protection of data and confidentiality would be explained. The reliability and importance of ensuring accurate data collection would be understood from here. The control measures that ensure data quality would also be explained here.

LO3 Evaluate IT systems that support value-added change within organisations
