Aim of Unit 3 The Developing Manager
Managers play an important role in organising the activities within an organisation for its better growth and development. Unit 3 The Developing Manager will make the learners understand the basic management principles and the skills to acquire a managerial position. This sheds light on the personal development and management practices and behaviour of individuals aspiring for a career in management. LO1 Understand principles and practices of management behaviour
This section provides detailed information regarding the practices and principles of management behaviour. This is conveyed through various management and leadership theories such as classical management theory, autocratic and democratic leadership. This will further be made understood with several approaches to management and leadership that include system approach, contingency approach and so on. Various process of communication will also be made understood to learners for acquiring an effective understanding among the employees of an organisation. This section also encloses different organisational culture and changes for acquiring better growth and development.
LO2 Be able to review own potential as a prospective manager
In this section, the learners will be able to develop knowledge about the appraisal of self-knowledge through various skills such as leadership skills, management skills, personal skills and technical skills. The learners will also be able to analyse their potential for being a manager through SMART objectives. Other skills such as problem-solving, decision making, value awareness, conflict management, positive thinking, communication skills and other personal and professional skills will be reviewed.
LO3 3 Be able to show managerial skills within a business and services context
This section will help the learners to understand the roles and responsibilities as a manager in the context of an organisation. They will be able to develop skills such as team building, group dynamics, group development, knowledge about products and services, decision making and maintaining good relationships with other employees within the organisation of the tour and travel.
LO4Be able to create a career development plan for employment within a business and services context
This section will help the learner to develop a career development plan with respect to managerial skills and personal skills. Managerial skills will include good thinking capability, communication power and team building spirit. However, personal skills include responsibility, adaptability, attitude, behaviour, aspirations and opportunities as a manager depending on the strengths of the student. This section will also inculcate a development plan regarding personal, career, current performance and future requirements.
