Aim of unit 19:
Aim of Unit 19 Contemporary Issues in Health and Social Care is to enable learners to search the contemporary issues which can develop public perspective. Understandability of the user has been addressed in this part. To make the system effective, learners need to include additional knowledge contemporary issues. The validity and reliability of the information is required to ensure in this part. One of the best ways to collect and apply knowledge is conduction of class debates. A range of health care issues can be incorporated and present during the session. In order to complete the task learners need to develop a portfolio of the media coverage . A clear analysis should be done by the researchers. This will help to bring clarity and areas of improvement could be pointed out.

LO1 Understand how information relating to health and social care gives rise to issues of concern to the public
This part is all about accessing health and social care information. The factors which are incorporated in this are financial, political, disability and child abuse. The information could also be assessed from different dimensions such as using media sources, leaflets, incorporating visual image and portfolio media coverage. The perspectives related to this have been also identified in this part. The people who are included in this are communities, groups and professionals. Policy formers are engaged with making policy which is related to health and social care. Development of health and social care is important in this regard.
LO2 Understand how issues of public concern related to health and social care are presented in the media
Media plays an important role to gain insight about health and social care. Learners should have a clear idea regarding data collection. It has to be authentic. The effective sources should be newspapers, magazines, websites and television channels. Reliability of sources of information helps to bring authenticity in the system and government sources and ideological or political perspectives from media sources proves to be the best in this regard.
LO3 be able to carry out research into different perspectives on a specific issue relating to health and social care
This part of the unit helps to get a clear insight to the learners regarding the usage of authentic sources. The Specialist sources of current information help bring authenticity in the system. The important electronic sources which could be used in this regards are government website, e-journals, media websites and pressure group websites. Important key issues have been also highlighted in this part which is service providers and professionalism. Important market regulations are also addressed in this part.
LO4 Understand the likely influence contemporary perspectives on health and social care issues have on the development of services
Collection of interrogating information is important but it should be valid and reliable enough. Impact on the service has been addressed in this part of the unit. The factors which are included in this are privatization, changes of threshold. Collection of data is not enough at the same time it is required to ascertain interpretation of information. One of the best ways which can be used by the learners is selection of professional and academic opinion. A genuine disagreement also works best in this regards.
